Biographical History

Anton Dostler (b. May 10, 1891-d. Dec. 1, 1945), a German infantry general, was commander of the 75th German Army Corps in the Italian theater. In March 1944, he ordered the execution of fifteen U.S. soldiers who had been captured during a mission to demolish a railroad tunnel near Genoa. In the first Allied war trial in 1945, General Dostler was found guilty of war crimes and executed by firing squad.
