Biographical History
W. (Warren) Leslie Barnette, Jr. was born on July 18, 1910. He graduated from Buffalo's Lafayette High School in 1928 and earned a bachelor's degree and a master's degree from the University of Buffalo in 1932 and 1936 respectively. Before the outbreak of World War II, he did some teaching at the Buffalo Collegiate Center and the State Teachers College of Buffalo. Beginning with 1942 until his discharge in 1946, Barnette served in the U.S. Army advancing to the rank of First Lieutenant. After the war he entered the Doctoral Program in Psychology at New York University, completing his dissertation in 1949. In 1950 he was appointed Assistant Professor in the Psychology Department at the University of Buffalo eventually becoming a Full Professor in 1958. He served the University and its students in various capacities until his death on April 11, 1980. Professor Barnette was also an accomplished classical pianist. In 1977 he was recognized for his teaching with the Milton Plesur Award for Excellence in Teaching and the Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching. He was a member of numerous professional organizations in psychology and personnel guidance. He also served on the Board of Directors of the University Faculty Club.
