Carlson, Miriam, 1930-1999.

Miriam "Mim" Carlson was born on September 18, 1930, in Keene, New Hampshire. She received a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of New Hampshire in 1952, and a master's degree in social work from Smith College in 1954. In 1956, she married Louis Carlson. After moving to Alaska in 1973, she served as a sociology professor at Anchorage Community College (ACC), and later as both director of the Social Science Division and as Vice Chancellor of Instruction. Mrs. Carlson was also the president of the Alaska Community College Federation of Teachers, interim associate vice chancellor of the College of Community and Continuing Education, and a member of the Chancellor's Transition Team for the ACC-University of Alaska Anchorage merger. Mrs. Carlson retired in 1989, and became an adjunct faculty member at Alaska Pacific University. After retirement, she also worked on legislative committees with the United Way, and was a board member of the Retired Public Employees of Alaska. Miriam Carlson died November 17, 1999 in Anchorage.
