Biographical History

Morris Goldstein was a rabbi of San Francisco's congregation Sherith Israel (1932-1971) and its rabbi emeritus from 1971 to 1984. He was ordained in 1927, and he received his D.H.L. (1949) and his D.D. (1958) from Hebrew Union College, in Cincinnati. Before coming to San Francisco, Goldstein served various congregations in the U.S. and England. In addition to the books he authored on Judaism and Christianity, he also contributed to Jewish and general reference works. He also served as a president of the Northern California Board of Rabbis and was a founder and chairman of the Jewish National Fund of San Francisco. He also was a board member and/or officer of the Jewish Education Society of San Francisco and the Bay Area Council of Boy Scouts; a chaplain of the San Francisco Fire Department; a faculty member of the Pacific School of Religion; and a lecturer at secular and religious colleges in the West. He was also a Freemason and an official in the Rotary Club.
