Biographical History
William Robert Roy was a Democrat representing Kansas in the 92nd and 93rd Congresses between January 3, 1971 and January 3, 1975. He received a B.S. from Illinois Wesleyan University in 1946, an M.D. from Northwestern University Medical School in 1950, and a J.D. from Washburn University Law School in 1970. Between 1953 and 1955, he served in the Air Force as a medical doctor at Forbes Air Force Base in Topeka, Kansas. He was honorably discharged with the rank of captain. Roy was elected to the United States House of Representatives in 1970 and re-elected in 1972. He was not a candidate for re-election in 1974, instead losing the race for the Senate to Bob Dole. He lost another Senate race in 1978 to Nancy Kassebaum. He resumed practicing medicine in Topeka until 1989.
