Biographical History

The first meeting of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd was held October 14, 1951 in the Vera School building. The formal organizational meeting was held March 1, 1953 with 49 adults and 45 children present. Property at East 15703 Valley Way, consisting of a house, chicken coop and barn, was purchased in 1953. The house became the parsonage, and the barn and chicken coop were transformed into the church sanctuary. Dedication of the facility took place April 4, 1954. In 1957, five acres were purchased on the corner of 8th and Sullivan for construction of the present sanctuary, and dedication was held on May 3, 1959. On March 11, 1985, the mortgage on this property was burned. A building expansion program is currently in process.
