Robert Franklin Worley (b. 1919, Riverside, Calif.-d. July 23, 1968), U.S. Air Force officer, graduated from pilot training and received his commission in 1941. During World War II he participated in the North African, Sicily, and Italian campaigns and Asia-Pacific Theater campaigns, flying 120 aerial missions with 215 combat hours. He was shot down in a mission over the African desert, but walked back through enemy lines to his unit. Later assignments included commander, 831st Air Division; deputy for operations, 12th Air Force HQ; and assistant deputy for operations, command and control, Tactical Air Command HQ. General Worley also served in Germany as director of operations for U.S. Air Forces in Europe. He was killed in the crash of an RF-4C jet aircraft in Vietnam while piloting a photo-reconnaissance mission.
