Biographical History
English blacksmith. Jewitt was the armorer aboard the ship Boston when it sailed from the Downs on September 3, 1802. En route to China, theship stopped at Nootka Sound, a busy trading port on the western shore off Vancouver Island. Here the ship and crew were taken into captivity by the Indians occupying the sound. Jewitt along with one other crewman survived the three-year captivity. He finally escaped Nootka Sound in the summer of 1805.
