Biographical History

Willoughby Farr was a dealer in antique American and European silver. Born in Darlington, England in 1883, he moved to the U.S. with his father, George Estes Farr in 1910, who came to New York to establish an antique silver department at Tiffany's. Both father and son gathered information about silvermakers and collected silvermakers' marks. Although he originally collected Colonial Revival and other antique furniture, Willoughby became well known by dealers, collectors, and scholars of silver. He often exchanged information with his step-son, Robert Ensko, Colgate University president George B. Cutten, Henry Francis DuPont, and J.M. Phillips of Yale University. He died in Edgewater, NJ in 1953.
