Biographical History
The Penn State Outing Club was founded in the fall of 1921. The student-run organization serves the Penn State community and is open to students, alumni, faculty, staff, and local community members. The club organizes several outdoor events throughout the year, namely backpacking trips, rock climbing events, canoeing, and other outdoor sports. The club is also active in trail maintenance, having been the driving force behind the Mid-State Trail clean up.
The Penn State Outing Club was organized in the fall of 1921 by students and faculty of the Pennsylvania State College "to support and develop the interest in and love of the out-of-doors. . . to protect wild life, both plant and animal. To collect and preserve useful information concerning the country and natural life in the vicinity of State College."
