Biographical History

On 22 May 1942, the United Steelworkers of America (USWA) issued charters for Bethlehem local unions 2598, 2599, and 2600, representing over 31,000 steelworkers. Initially, the Tri-Local unions were identified as "A", "B" and "C" and were loosely based on occupational sectors. Three months later, on 13 August, following negotiations conducted before the War Labor Board in Washington, Bethlehem Steel signed its first agreement with the USWA. The Tri-Local belonged to District 9 of the USWA. That district was merged into District 7 in 1992. On 23 January 1995, the structure of the Tri-Local was consolidated under a single number, as Local 2599, which expanded into other industrial areas following the closure of Bethlehem Steel. The Tri-Local and its committees disbanded at this time. In February 1995, Local 2599 came into a newly organized District 10, spanning all of Pennsylvania.

From the description of United Steelworkers of America, Tri-Local and Locals 2598, 2599, and 2600 records, circa 1939-1992. (Pennsylvania State University Libraries). WorldCat record id: 610572165
