Trinidadian journalist, novelist and short story writer.

Michael Anthony was born in the rural village of Mayaro and later moved to San Fernando where he received his higher education and technical training. His literary career began as a poet with the publication of his poems in the "Trinidad Guardian," (1952-1954). In 1954 he emigrated to England where he held various jobs while continuing to further his writing career. From 1955-1959 over thirty of his stories were broadcast over the BBC's "Caribbean Voices" radio program. Many of these stories are in "Cricket in the road." During this period British publisher Andre Deutsch encouraged Anthony to concentrate on writing longer works of fiction, which resulted in the publication of his first novel "The Games Were Coming" (1963). Two additional novels were published by Deutsch in 1965 & 1967.

Anthony went to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 1968 to teach and work for the Trinidadian Embassy there. The Brazilian student riots of 1969 provided much of the material for the novel "Streets of Conflict." (1976). In 1970 Anthony returned to Trinidad and was employed as a writer/researcher with the National Cultural Council of Trinidad and Tobago while also working as a local columnist, radio script writer and novelist. He has published several histories of the island of Trinidad for use in schools. These include "Glimpses of Trinidad and Tobago" (1974) and "Bright Road to El Dorado." (1981).
