Peter Vogel attended the Alaska Agricultural College and School of Mines in the 1930s and later graduated from the University of Oregon and the University of Oregon Medical School. He became interested in photography while attending college and working in Alaskan mining camps. He is a professional psychiatrist and has also taught photography.
