Biographical History
Roy Bell (Raoul Sunday Bell) was a pioneer naturalist and collector in several parts of the South Pacific and Australia. He collected shells from Sunday Island (the place of his birth), and observed, investigated and recorded the bird life of Norfolk and Lord Howe Islands for G.M. Mathews. He forwarded specimens of shells, bird skins, birds preserved in spirit, eggs and insects to Tom Iredale at the British Museum. He surveyed the molluscan fauna of Eden and Twofold Bay, N.S.W.; and investigated the fauna of Mallacoota, Disaster Bay, Gabo Island, Gippsland Lakes, Tullaberga Island and Port Fairy, Vic. The publication "Birds of Norfolk and Lord Howe Island' by G.M. Mathews, London 1928, is based on Roy Bell's work. Roy Bell lived on Norfolk Island from 1910 until his death in 1966.
