Biographical History

Committee of Concord, Mass. (subcommittee of Public Safety Committee) formed in 1917 to erect Roll of Honor as memorial to those who served in WWI. Chairman: Prescott Keyes. Efforts of Committee Recorder Florence W. Richardson in compiling listing of and biographical information on those who served were acknowledged in 1919 annual town report. Roll of Honor resulting from Committee's early work, including names of all who served, was erected in Monument Square in 1919. Designed by Harry Little, it was intended as temporary memorial only (panels forming it made so that it could.

(Cont.) later be transferred to Concord Armory). Temporary memorial to war dead (gold star) was also put up. As indicated in 1920 town report, permanent granite and bronze memorial to those who had died in war was planned. This memorial, boulder with bronze tablet bearing names of dead, was dedicated on May 25, 1924 (Memorial Day), in Monument Square.
