Kentucky lawyer, editor, and poet.
Henry T. Stanton, a native of Virginia, moved to Maysville as a young child. He attended the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and served in the Confederate army during the Civil War, attaining the rank of major. Following the war, he practiced law and worked as a Maysville newspaper editor. Stanton also worked in Kentucky state government. In 1870 he became associate editor of the KENTUCKY YEOMAN in Frankfort, holding that post until the paper ceased publication in 1886. Stanton's literary output included two volumes of verse and two novels. He also served as one of the editors of the newsletters of the Frankfort Lyceum literary society. His best-known work was a poem entitled THE MONEYLESS MAN.
