Van Zandt, Irving, 1910-1991.

Irving Van Zandt, Jr., was born on March 30, 1940 in New York, N.Y. He graduated from Williams College in 1931, marrying Helen B. Westermann a year later. Van Zandt became a chemical warfare instructor to members of the French army in North Africa, served as aide de camp to Commanding General of French training, Penoral A.F. Kingman, and trained the liberated manpower of France, Belgium, Holland, and Luxembourg. Honorably discharged from the U.S. Army with the rank of captain, Van Zandt remained active in the reserves from 1946 to 1963, when he retired as a lieutenant colonel. From 1946 to 1975, he worked for Benson & Benson, Inc., in Princeton, N.J., becoming President in 1973. Van Zandt died on July 8, 1991.
