Biographical History
W.L. Terry was born on 27 Sept. 1850 near Wadesboro, N.C. He graduated from Trinity College in North Carolina in 1872 and was admitted to the bar in Little Rock in 1873. From 1875 to 1885, he was city attorney. In 1879, he also served as state senator and senator pro tempore. He was elected to Congress in 1901 and retired in 1909. In 1875 he married Mollie C. Dixon. She died in 1895. In 1899 he married Florence Forshe. Children by his first wife were W.L., Jr., David D., and Frank A. Terry. A daughter by his second wife was Mary Louise. Terry died on 4 Nov. 1917.
W.L. Terry's son, David D. Terry, was born 31 Jan. 1881. He attended the University of Virginia from 1900 to 1901 and was graduated from the University of Arkansas Law School in 1903. He served in the Arkansas House of Representatives in 1932. At a special election on 19 Dec. 1933, he was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. After serving nine years in the House, he resigned to run, unsuccessfully, for the Senate in 1942. Terry married M. Ado1phene Fletcher and died on 6 Oct. 1963.
