He spent the following years working various jobs including stints teaching college English, managing a used bookstore and bartending, anything that would allow him the flexibility to pursue writing. It was not until the age of forty that his first novel, Wilderness, was accepted for publication. He received his BA, MA and Ph.D. in English Literature from the University of Texas at Arlington. He also holds a MFA in Fiction Writing from Virginia Commonwealth University. Danvers' published works include: Wilderness, 1991; Time and Time Again, 1995; Circuit to Heaven, 1998; End of Days, 1999, The Fourth World, 2000; and The Watch, 2001. The Bright Spot, 2005, was published under the pseudonym Robert Sydney. Wilderness was nominated for both the Locus and Bram Stoker First Novel Awards in 1991. Time and Time Again and Circuit of Heaven were named New York Times Notable Book for 1998. The Watch was named New York Times Notable Book for 2002 and also one of the ten best SF novels of 2002 by Booklist. He divides his time between Richmond and Williamsburg, Virginia.
