Biographical History

Joseph A. Benton was pastor of the First Church of Christ in Sacramento. His sermons are collected in the California pilgrim (1853).

Joseph A. Benton was a Congregationalist minister. He went to California in 1849 and served as a church pastor in Sacramento, 1849-1863, and in San Francisco, 1863-1869. He was a professor at the Pacific Theological Seminary, 1869-1892.

Biography

A Congregational minister, Benton came to California by ship in 1849. He settled and began his ministry in Sacramento. In later life, he became president of the Pacific Theological Seminary in Oakland, California. He died April 8, 1892, in Oakland.
