Biographical History
Charles M. Wiltse, Cornell graduate; employed by New York in government research and public administration; assistant to director of Education for the National Youth Administration until 1940 when Dutton Publishing Co. commissioned him to write a Calhoun biography. In 1943 he served for a short time in the U.S. Army until he received a disability discharge. He then took a position with the war production board. Between 1942-1951 he wrote and published his three volume biography of John C. Calhoun. Wiltse corresponded with Mr. & Mrs. Alester G.
