Biographical History

William Procter was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on September 8, 1872. He graduated from Sheffield Scientific School, Yale University, in 1894. After graduation, Procter spent a few years travelling and working at various jobs before becoming an organizer and partner at Procter & Borden, a firm that worked in bonds in New York City, where he stayed until 1920. After 1920, Procter spent much of his time in Maine, including seven years as president of Bar Harbour Hospital, and 1926 through 1951 as president of the Biological Survey of the Mount Desert Region. In 1936, he received the degree of Sc.D. from a university in Montreal. He was a member of the advisory board for the department of zoology at Columbia University between 1942 and 1947. On February 3, 1910, he married Emily Pearson, who died in 1949. He died on April 19, 1951, in West Palm Beach, Florida.
