Biographical History

Benjamin Watkins Leigh (1781-1849), a native of Chesterfield County, Virginia, was educated at William and Mary College, and practiced law in Petersburg and Richmond, Virginia. He was a member of the House of Delegates, supervised the revision of the Virginia Code in 1819, was a member of the 1829-30, Constitutional convention, and U.S. Senator. From 1829-1841 Leigh served as the reporter of the Supreme Court of Appeals.
