Biographical History
Donald Prentice Booth (1902-1993) was born in Albany, New York. From West Point, he commissioned with the Corps of Engineers in 1926. During World War II he served with the Persian Gulf Command. Between October 1942 and August 1945 he rose from director of ports to chief of staff, brigadier general, and then commanding general. His was commanding general of the 28th Infantry Division from 1953 to 1954 and of the 9th Infantry Division in 1954. He rose from deputy assistant chief of staff to chief of staff for personnel, U.S. Army, during his tenure between 1954 and 1957. He held the positions of high commissioner of the Ryukyu Islands, from 1958 to 1961, and commanding general of the Fourth Army, from 1961 to 1962. He retired in February 1962 as lieutenant general. Decorations from his career include three Distinguished Service Medals.
