From the description of Mark W. Zemansky commemorative session, American Association of Physics Teachers summer meeting, 1982 June 23. (Unknown). WorldCat record id: 79789781

Born in New York City and educated in its public schools; received B.S. in Physics from City College in 1921 and the Ph. D. from Columbia University in 1928. National Research Fellow at Princeton (1928-1930) and student in Berlin (1930-1931). Took up appointment as Assistant Professor of Physics at City College and rose through the ranks, retiring in 1967. His particular interests were heat and thermodynamics and resonance radiation. After his retirement he continued his collaboration with Francis W. Sears on new editions of their textbooks, "College Physics" and "University Physics". Zemansky played an active role in the American Association of Physics Teachers and numbered among his pupils Robert Hofstadter and Arno Penzia. Referee of articles submitted to American Journal of Physics between 1938-1980. Honored by his College and by various physics societies. Died in 1981.
