Biographical History

Earliest item in collection an anti-Catholic poem written or copied by Joseph Moore (1845). Another early item is an undated prose meditation on grandeur of moonlight by Mary J. Howell of Salem, Ohio. Genealogy note states that Daniel Howell (b. 1827) and Lydia E. Moore (b. 1832) married in 1851 and that they had three children: Elisabeth A. (b. 1852); Mary Jane (b. 1854); and William Hamilton (b. 1856). William H. Howell went to California where his sister, Mary Jane, wrote him a letter in verse that apparently was once in an autograph book that his friends and relatives sent him from Salem, Ohio (1888). Notes written in 20th century on M.E. Hammond Building Material (San Francisco) notepaper about various Moore family artifacts. Also two undated 19th century religious tracts.

From the description of Moore-Howell family papers, 1845-1888. (University of the Pacific). WorldCat record id: 37347754
