Charles Willard Moore, Architect; Los Angeles, Calif. Died Dec. 16, 1993.
Charles Willard Moore, renowned architect, writer of numerous articles and books, and teacher, was born in Benton Harbor, Michigan in 1925. He earned a Bachelor of Architecture Degree from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor (1947), and Master of Fine Art and Doctoral Degrees from Princeton University by 1957. His academic posts include serving as Dean, Chairman, and faculty member at five different universities, including the University of California at Berkeley, Yale University, and The University of Texas at Austin. A prolific architect, Moore completed 180 commissions, and served as principal architect in firms in California, Connecticut, and Texas. Two of his most noted, collaborative works include the Sea Ranch, a recreational community near San Francisco, built in the 1960s, and the design of the Kresge College at the University of California at Santa Cruz in 1973.
As a practitioner, critic and teacher, Charles Moore was an influential leader of the Post-Modern movement in the United States which revived the importance of history and humanism to architectural design.

Received his Architecture degree in 1947 from the University of Michigan; and in 1957 he received his Ph. D. in Architectural history from Princeton University. Taught at UC Berkeley, Yale, and UCLA. He has partnerhips in several architectural firms: MLTW (Moore, Lyndon, Turnball, Whitaker); Urban Innovations Group; Moore, Grover, Harper; and Moore, Ruble, Yudell. Major projects include the Sea Ranch Residential Resort (1964-1965) and Piazza d'Italia in New Orleans (1975-1978).
