American writer.
Anne Beattie was born in 1947 in Washignton, D.C. and attended American University. She received her masters degree from the University of Connecticut. She started her career by writing short stories and published her first novel, Chilly scenes of winter, in 1976. She has taught at Harvard and the University of Connecticut and presently is the Edgar Allan Poe professor of creative writing at the University of Virginia. Beattie summers in York, Maine.
