Biographical History

American physician, oncologist, and hematologist.

Virgil Loeb, Jr. received his medical degree from the Washington University School of Medicine in 1944 where he trained under Dr. Carl V. Moore. He interned at Barnes and Jewish hospital, St. Louis, (1944-1945) and was resident in internal medicine at Barnes Hospital (1947-1948) and research fellow in hematology Washington U (1949-1952). He was director of Central Diagnostic Labs, Barnes Hospital St. Louis, 1952-1968. His private practice in St. Louis specialized in medical oncology and hematology (1956-1996).

Virgil Loeb, Jr. joined the faculty of his alma mater in 1951, retiring as professor emeritus of clinical medicine. He served as: instructor (1951-1953) & assistant professor medicine (1953-1968), assistant professor pathology (1955-1978), associate professor medicine (1968-1978), professor of clinical medicine (1978-1996). He was also on staff at numerous hospitals (1951-1996).He joined the board of the American Cancer Society in 1979, serving as president in 1986-87. His lifelong professional interests were clinical practice and clinical research in hematology and oncology and in later years he focused on clinical trials in cancer therapeutic research. ---Amer.
