He was the author of The Story of Money as Told by the Knox Collection (1936) and United States Commemorative Coins, 1892-1939 (1940) and he wrote and illustrated a newspaper column called Curiosities of Currency. He became editor of The Numismatist in 1945, a position he held until 1954, and in 1948 became acting curator of numismatics at the Smithsonian Institution.
