Thompson family.

Thomas G. (Thomas Gordon) Thompson (1888-1961) studied and taught chemistry at the University of Washington, where he coordinated the establishment of the Oceanographic Laboratories in 1930. Thomas served in the United States Army during World War I and World War II, engaging in chemical warfare research. During World War II, he worked at Stanford University's Edgewood Arsenal, and also headed a War Department Civilian Defense School in Seattle, Washington. Harriet G. (Harriet Galbraith) Thompson (1893-1951) was born in Winnipeg, Canada, and homesteaded as a girl on Bowen Island, British Columbia. A 1911 graduate of the Royal Columbia Teaching Hospital, she worked as a nurse in Juneau, Alaska and then in Seattle. After meeting at the University of Washington, Thomas and Harriet married in 1922 and had three children: Thomas Jr., Jack and Harriet. During World War II, both sons were drafted into the United States Army, while Harriet G. Thompson worked as a head instructor for the American National Red Cross Nurses' Aides training program in Seattle. During the last years of World War II, the Thompson family purchased McConnell Island, part of the San Juan Islands in Washington State.
