Biographical Note: Henry R. Bishop was an English musical composer.
He was born in London, Nov. 18, 1786 and was later a student of the Italian composer, Francesco Bianchi. Most of Bishop's career was spent writing or arranging music for London theaters. He composed music for the ballet and wrote several operas including "Clari, or the Maid of Milan" which was performed at Drury Lane in 1823. It was in "Clari" that the tune "Home Sweet Home" was introduced. Bishop was the first musician to be knighted (1842) and was appointed professor of music at Oxford in 1848. Henry R.
