Biographical History

Peters was a Saginaw (Mich.) Commissioner, a partner in Seemann and Peters, Secretary of the Saginaw County Farmers' Club, and Chairman of the Committee on Roads of the [East] Saginaw Board of Trade. (The papers of Seemann and Peters are also housed in the Clarke Historical Library.) William B. Baum (Jan. 23, 1856- ) served as a Mich. Rep. from the 1st District [Saginaw County], 1893-1894. He was engaged in the real estate business, and served as Alderman and Mayor of East Saginaw. Baum was the first East Saginaw Mayor born in the city, and the last to serve before the city was consolidated. William L. Webber (July 19, 1825- Oct. 15, 1902) served as a Mich. Senator form the 25th District, 1875-1876. He was admitted to the bar in 1851. In 1853 Webber moved to East Saginaw, where he practiced law until 1869. He became a lawyer for the Flint & Pere Marquette Railroad Co. in 1857. Webber served as a road commissioner, 1870-1885, and as road director after 1864. He was president of the Tuscola & Huron Railroad. Webber also served as Circuit Court Commissioner of Saginaw County, 1854-1855; Prosecuting Attorney; Mayor of East Saginaw; Democratic candidate for Gov., 1876; and president of the State Agricultural Society, 1878. In this collection he is also documented as serving as the president of both the Mich. League for Good Roads and the East Saginaw Board of Trade. John T. Rich (April 23, 1841-1926) served as Mich. Rep. from Lapeer County, 1873-1880; Senator from the 20th District, 1881-1882; U.S. Rep. from the 7th District of Mich., 1881-1883; Gov. of Mich., 1893-1895 and 1895-1897; and State Treasurer, 1908.
