Biographical History
Springfield, Illinois Lutheran minister, educator, school principle, Civil War chaplain and a founder of Carthage College. Founded first Lutheran church in Springfield, served as president of Hillsboro Academy and Illinois State University at Springfield and as chaplain with the 10th Illinois Infantry and First Arkansas Infantry at Fort Smith where he helped develop the Arkansas Asylum, a home for war orphans, and with the Freedmen.
