Biographical History

Ezekial and Margaret McCoy moved to the Hopewell area of northern Mecklenburg County in 1768 and their descendants have owned land in that area ever since then. It is the papers of Albert McCoy, 1843-1925, that make up most of the documentation in this collection. Because the McCoys owned slaves, some of the files in this collection concern a slave cemetery and traditional stories told by some of the McCoy slaves. Two of Albert's sons served in the US Army during WWI, and their letters are also in this collection.

From the description of McCoy family papers, 1796-2001, 1844-1919. (Unknown). WorldCat record id: 457879150
