Biographical History
Richmond Dispatch was established in in 1850 by James Andrew Cowardin and Henry Keeling Ellyson. In 1850-1883 the newspaper was published daily (except Sundays) under the title of Daily Dispatch. The publication was suspended in Apr. - Dec. of 1865 and again briefly in Apr. 1866. In 1890, the Dispatch was acquired by John L. Williams. On Jan. 26, 1903, Joseph Bryan's Times and John L. Williams' Dispatch consolidated into the Richmond Times-Dispatch, owned by Bryan.
