Biographical History
Editor and journalist. While attending the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa, Debra Blake worked as a journalist and editor for the university newspaper, the Northern Iowan. After graduation she worked as a newscaster and reporter for radio and television stations in Waterloo, Iowa, namely KWWL, KWWL-TV, KWLO, and KFMW.
She was also an editor and journalist for Salute, a magazine for business and professional women in northeastern Iowa, and for Northern Iowa today and Northern Iowa nonpareil, alumni publications of the University of Northern Iowa. From 1983 to 1988 she served as assistant publications administrator at the Office of Public Relations at the university. Blake also volunteered her services as director of publicity for the Sturgis Falls Celebration in Cedar Falls and conducted workshops at the university's Leadership for Tomorrow Conference in 1987.
Blake later attended graduate school at the University of Iowa, receiving a Ph.D. in English in 1997.
