Biographical History
In 1904, the California-based Richardson Brothers Company and its subsidiary, Richardson Construction Company, established Compañia Constructora Richardson to handle its interests in Sonora, Mexico. W.E. Richardson, Davis Richardson, and H.A. Sibbet were the executives. The purpose of the company was to build a railroad line and develop an irrigation system in the Yaqui River Valley, for agricultural and real estate development. The company purchased most of the land from the bankrupt Sinaloa and Sonora Land and Irrigation Company, and sold the rights to build the railroad to the Southern Pacific Railroad Company. Work on the project was stalled during the Mexican Revolution. The contracts previously granted by the president Porfirio Diaz were renegotiated with the new president, Alvaro Obregón. Yaqui Delta Land and Water Company was formed by the Richardsons in 1909 to sell bonds for Compañia Constructora Richardson. The Compañia was acquired by the Mexican government in 1927, and became Irrigadora del Yaqui, S.A.
