Truesdell Sparhawk Brown was born on Mar. 21, 1906 in Philadelphia, PA; attended Haverford College, 1922-23; AB (1928), MA (1929), Harvard Univ.; graduate study at Univ. of Innsbruck, 1932-33; Ph. D, Columbia Univ., 1947; instructor in ancient history (1929-37), Univ. of Colorado; instructor, then asst. professor (1940-47), Univ. of Texas; lecturer (1947-48), asst. professor (1948-51), assoc. professor (1951-56), professor (1956-73) and professor emeritus of ancient history, UCLA; chairman of history department, 1959-62; published works include Onesicritus : a study in Hellenistic historiography (1949), Timaeus of Tauromenium (1958), and The Greek historians (1973); Brown retired in 1973; he died on Jan. 13, 1992 in Houston, TX.
