George Washington University Office of University Relations

The Director of University Relations at The George Washington University reports to the Vice President for Information and Administration Services, and oversees the issuing of news releases (1960-Present) and is responsible for numerous publications. Currently, these include By George (1989-Present), GW Magazine (1964-71; 1990-Present), President's Report, Community Commitments (1998, a bi-annual publication) and Guide to The George Washington University (1999, bi-annual publication). It also published Strength to Strength, a pictorial history of GW (1996), and, with the architecture office, the campus map. Past publications include: Alumni Review (1936-63), GWU Newsletter (1958-68), GWU Federalist (1954-63), Faculty Newsletter (1962-76), GW News (1968-71), GW Report (1982-89), GW Times (1972-89), Monday Report (1968-82), and GW in the News (1983-92). The office also maintains publicity files on staff and faculty. Before 1987, University Relations was known as the Public Relations Office. N.B. This history note was written in 2005
