Biographical History

Giulietta Mendelssohn was the daughter of Florentine portraitist Michele Gordigiani. She married the banker Robert von Mendelssohn of the famous Mendelssohn family; they had two children, Francesco and Eleonora. After her husband died in 1917 she moved in with the cellist Gaspar Cassadó, who was 26 years younger than she was, and moved back to Italy, leaving her teenage children to look after the large family home in Berlin.
