Biographical History
Marianne Breslauer was born on December 20, 1914 in Breslau, Silesia to Hans Schaeffer, Germany's Secretary of State during the Weimar Republic and his wife Eva.
She immigrated with her family to Sweden in 1933 and in the 1930s she moved to the US.
She studied Social Studies at Columbia University and worked as a social worker throughout her life. She had various research interests, such as the Jewish life in Silesia and the Holocaust and collected various articles and clippings.
She maintained a lucid and extensive correspondence with her family, in particular with her parents. These letters help to understand her situation and living conditions at the time she left Germany until her retirement in the 1990s.
