Biographical History

Karl Ashburn was born on November 7, 1904, in Whitesboro, Texas. He taught at McNeese State College from 1950-1958 and earned the position of Dean of Commerce. Dr. Ashburn was a prolific writer and economic theorist. He was editor of the Southwest Social Science Quarterly and also contributed to such publications as the Southwestern Historical Quarterly and Social Digest. Ashburn served as an aide to Governor Earl Long of Louisiana, earning the rank of Admiral. He was also an aide to Governor A.B. Chandler of Kentucky in 1958, earning the rank of Colonel. He was married to Sarah Lucille Tipton on January 7, 1933. The had four children, Carol, Mary, Becky, and Travis. Ashburn spend his final years in Plano, Texas, where he taught at the University of Plano. He died on July 21, 1974, and is buried in Lake Charles.
