Biographical History
Pratt, John Burnett (1799-1869), was a Scottish Episcopal clergyman and antiquary. In 1825 he was elected to St James's Church, Cruden, Aberdeenshire, where he remained until his death. Pratt edited The Communion Office for the Use of the Church of Scotland (1866), as well as other religious works; he also published several books reflecting his antiquarian interests, including Buchan (1858), an antiquarian and topographical study of that district; and The Druids (1861).
Peter Buchan (1790-1854) was a Scottish editor, who, in his retirement, began to collect and edit Scottish ballads. He published Ancient Ballads and Songs of the North of Scotland (1828) and Scottish Traditional Versions of Ancient Ballads (1845).
