Biographical History
Alexander Lochore was born on 2 December 1792 , son of Robert Lochore ( 1762-1852 ), shoemaker, and Isobel Browning. He was educated at Glasgow Grammar School, Scotland, and the University of Glasgow, graduating MA in 1814. On 18 January 1825, he married Elizabeth Price of Jamaica (d1885), and had four daughters and four sons. He was awarded the degree of Doctor of Divinity by the University of Glasgow in 1874 .
After a period as a tutor to the family of James Dennistoun of Dennistoun, Alexander Lochore was licensed by the Presbytery of Glasgow on 19 October 1819. He was then presented to the Parish of Drymen, Stirling, Scotland, by the Duke of Montrose, on behalf of King George IV, in February 1824 , and ordained on 22 April that year. He held this charge until his death. Alexander wrote poetry and songs, including a poem for is sisters wedding in 1850. He died on 17 August 1877 .
