Biographical History

The Society was formed on 10 Dec. 1953 at a public meeting at the Canberra University College (later the Australian National University) chaired by Professor H. Burton. The first president was Mr. L.F. Fitzhardinge. Other prominent academics and public figures associated with the Society have been Professor Manning Clark, Professor O.H.K. Spate, A.T Shakespeare and Dr. J.H.L. Cumpston.
