Biographical History
John D. Babb, Union soldier, was probably born in Maryland, ca. 1842; his date of death is unknown. His father was a baker in Baltimore, Maryland, and his parents, and sister, Agnes (d. 1864), were patriotic unionists. Babb served with the 5th Maryland Regiment, Maryland Volunteer Infantry, in Maryland and Virginia, and was captured and sent to Libby Prison. He was exchanged, then wounded in battle and sent to a hospital at Fort Monroe until he was discharged.
