Biographical History
The University of Texas at San Antonio was established in 1969. As of 2010, the University comprises three campuses: UTSA's Main Campus in northwest San Antonio, its Downtown Campus, and the HemisFair Park Campus, which includes the Institute of Texan Cultures museum.
Cactus Alley was an annual student literary magazine founded in 1981. It was originally affiliated with the College of Humanities and Social Sciences and the Division of English, Classics, and Philosophy. It was later affiliated with the English Department. The publication contains poetry, short stories, literary non-fiction, non-scholarly essays, and high-contrast art submitted by students from any UTSA department. The student group also held public readings of selected works from that year’s issue.
The Paisano is an independent student newspaper established in January of 1981. It contains news about UTSA's students, faculty, departments, and administration as well as letters to the editor, calendars, advertisements, and a police blotter. Content frequently includes criticisms of the university administration and student government. In 1994, The Paisano received the Saturn Car Corporation Teamwork Project Award and a first place rating by the Columbia Scholastic Press. For more information, see Web site for The Paisano .
Sagebrush Review is an annual student-produced, student-funded magazine that publishes the art, photography, and literature of university students in the San Antonio area. The student group also organizes art and literature events at UTSA. Sagebrush Review staff is advised by faculty from the English Department. Volume 1 was published in 2006.
