Biographical History
The Committee on the Coordination of Assistance to Tanganyika (Tanzania) (CCA) was formed in 1964 by mission boards and church agencies supporting Tanzanian Lutheran churches. After 1967, when the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania (ELCT) was formed, the CCA became the Committee on the Coordination of Assistance to the ELCT. In 1968, the body was restructured to function as a sponsoring agency of the ELCT central office and was renamed the LCS-T. In response to the need for increased coordination, the LCS-T was reconstituted in 1973 as the Lutheran Coordination Service (LCS), an enlarged coordinating committee which assumed the responsibilities of at least three of the area synod/dioceses and ELCT centralize activity related committees. The U.S.A. National Committee of the Lutheran World Federation participated heavily in these organizations. In 1977, the USANC was reorganized as Lutheran World Ministries (LWM).
