Anāhata is the name of the fourth of the seven principal "chakras" or circles symbolizing progressive states of spiritual awakening in the ascending series described in the ancient Tantric teaching known as Kundalini Yoga. Commissioned by the Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic. Composed 1984-86. First performance Scranton, Pennsylvania, 18 April 1986, Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic, Hugh Wolff conductor. Dedicated to the composer's father on his seventieth birthday.--Cf. Fleisher Collection.
